Reverse engineering of rare car parts – we’ve got that covered too!

We had a request from Kev at the Scooby Clinic in Chersterfield to see if we could help him get a replacement body part for a very rare Subaru Impreza 22B.

One of his customers cars had a rear brake light lense missing which left this fantastic machine slightly incomplete.

Luckily Kev had a couple of these cars in his workshop and sent us the part off the other one so that we could reverse engineer and then print a replacement part.

We reverse engineered and produced a replacement part in tough ABS plastic, complete with a separate red translucent lens and got it back to Kev at the Scooby Clinic within a week.

They were pleased and so was their customer who could not have sourced one of these due to the fact that only 400 were ever made.

An iconic 22 B has been with us for an engine build and various other work including fitting and mapping on the Syvecs S7 ecu, what better way to introduce the latest offering from Syvecs than to install and map it on the iconic 22B Impreza, write up on this to follow.

Ever since the 22B has been with us its bugged us that the trim around the rear spoiler brake light was missing, image 1, mentioning this to the owner he asked if we could locate one, not a prayer, hens teeth sprung to mind, however we know a man called Jon Harry from Cleanwavesolutions.comwith a 3D printer, we have used Jon in the past for unavailable parts such as washer jet covers, if the left ones missing and no longer available then Jon can scan the right hand one and mirror image it making us a left hand one on his 3D printer and vice versa.

A quick call to Jon and he offered to have a go at scanning & 3D printing one for us based on having one to scan, just so happens we have three 22B’s in at the moment so with owners permission we borrowed one and sent it off to Jon at Clean wave solutions Ltd.

A week later the original was back and a replica ready to prep and paint, image 2, image 3 shows it prepared and in primer, image 4 painted and image 5 fitted, result !

If you have any small component you need copying it may just be worth getting in touch with Jon, on this occasion he has made us a part no longer available and unique to the 22B rear spoiler, doubt there will be a big call for the part but if anyone out there needs one for their 22B they are now available courtesy of Jon Harry.
